Hi Everyone

Today I went for my 6 monthly checkup and my methotrexate has been increased from 20mg to 25mg (injection) This is due to the regular flare ups I keep having, plus the fact that my right wrist is badly swollen. I am a bit worried about taking this amount re side effects, for example will I start losing my hair. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who is on 25mg. I have never suffered any side effects from the 20mg dose.

regards

Val

Hi there Val, when I was on 25mg injections, I didn't loose any hair, maybe I was lucky, but as Mary said, check it out with your nurse as soon as you can put your mind at rest. Hope the higher dose works for you and you feel better very soon, Lxx

Hi Val, I'm on 15mg of MTX and lost a little bit of hair when I got to that dose but once my body acclimatised to that dose then the hair loss settled down. It wasn't a huge amount though and that's just me and my reaction. Try not to worry too much and definitely speak to your rheumie nurse - mine was brilliant at putting my mind at ease. Good luck! ...... Allison x

When I was on 25mg MTX I didn't suffer any side effects that I knew about. I would think if you tolerate it well at 20mg, you will be ok on 25mg.

Hi, i have been on 25mg for 6 months now, and i think i must be one the unfortunate ones!! (or maybe i am just downright difficult!) Have hair loss - which does lead to some interesting hairstyles and go from week to week with mouth ulcers. Waiting to see rheumy nurse to see what next as this is obviously not the drug for me.

As you can see from other posts, most people dont have any problems with this medication, and i hope that you are also one of the lucky ones.

Hi Val,

I had no ill effects when I went from 20mg to 25mg. I could be wrong but I suspect that the majority of side-effects would have shown themselves by now.

Hope it works well for you!!!
